PANTHER EXPRESS INTRODUCES BANDWIDTH THROTTLING TO OPTIMIZE COST AND PERFORMANCE FOR SITES
NY-Based Panther Express Enables Bandwidth Throttling to Limit Progressive Video Download Rate
NEW YORK, 03/21/07 - Panther Express, the low cost content delivery network (CDN), announced today the launch of its new bandwidth throttling feature that limits the progressive download rate serving unviewed content. The new functionality offers publishers a solution for achieving greater efficiency in bandwidth costs and operation, while continuing to deliver high-performing content to users.
"In many cases, this new technology allows the publisher to reduce bandwidth use by around 25%," says Dwight Merriman, Chairman and Co-Founder of Panther Express, "all while continuing to use the industry leading progressive download technology."
The latest technological advance from Panther Express arrives in the heat of rising demand from publishers who face the burden of high bandwidth costs for downloading video files that do not get full-length viewership.
A user with a fast Internet connection, for example, may download an 8-minute long video file, only to abandon the video after two minutes of viewing. The remaining 6 minutes of video represents wasted bandwidth costs for the publisher.
Bandwidth throttling is another advantage to Panther Express's top-tier content delivery, bringing publishers higher value at lowest-in-market costs.
